Get an EQ2 Paid Mount For Free

Did the title grab your attention? Good.

I had a feeling that if I was patient enough, I wouldn’t need to shell out real money for a paid mount. As the Internet would say it, I AM NOT DISAPPOINT.

Here’s the deal: Stargrace (of MMOQuests and Nomadic Gamer fame) has a contest up for folks who play Everquest 2. She’s got a contest up for five prowler mounts on MMOQuests and all you have to do to get a shot at petting your very own kitty is to give your prowler a name.

Of course, it’s never really that simple. Stargrace will be judging entries to the contest based on creativity, so you may want to add a good backstory for how you met the prowler and tamed the beast. Check the official rules on her blog for the full details, and remember: contest submissions will not be accepted after June 1st.

Best of luck to us all!

The Temptation to Jump In

This’ll be relatively quick.

I have this painful need to want to resub to EQ2, but I hesitate to do so and enjoy myself right now because I want to make sure that the UI I use, the relatively noob-friendly ProfitUI, is working properly. There are reports of some bugs, which sort of makes me not want to sub just yet, but I don’t have the full story on that. At present, I’m asking around on Eq2Interface to make sure I get the facts I need to make an informed decision rather than just jumping in… but jumping into EQ2 seems like such a good idea right now.
Have any of you ever felt that way? How do you deal with that feeling?

Running Around like a Headless Chicken in Anticipation.

The Grand Goddess of Geekery (g33kg0dd3ss) posted on Twitter about the news that EQ2’s New Halas update is coming up in a few hours after maintenance.

I. AM. EXCITED.

I’m currently running around like a headless chicken in my mind because there are so many things that need to be done in preparation. For starters, I have to figure out if my current UI setup will work with New Halas. To that end, I’ve already made a post on EQ2Interface’s forums to figure out if I’ll run into any problems.  Also, I’m currently reading up on the best way for me to go and betray to the side of good, turning my Sarnak Shadowknight into a Paladin in the process.

In any event, the next few days should prove to be quite interesting. I’m looking forward to seeing what happens.

A Birthday Post

[youtube=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uDrggcSnAx8]

So I turned 27 today, and it’s been a pretty good day so far.

I opted to make a quick blog post to thank my blogging family for being here by my side all this time, and to give everyone notice of what my plans are now.

First off: Blogging Community, you are my brothers and sisters, one and all, and it makes me feel good to know you’re there for me. The Song above is my sappy, lovey-dovey tribute to you guys. 🙂

In a nutshell, since no one’s selling Age of Conan: Rise of the Godslayer in box form here yet, I’m going back to Everquest 2 by tonight. 🙂

I’m hoping to see you folks there when New Halas comes out, as I betray my Sarnak and turn him into a good guy. 🙂

Now, could anyone teach me how to do the Everfrost portions of the New Halas Prelude quest? Never been there before. 🙂

Hyper Video Cast Off: That Girl

[youtube=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eivjMgWu3JA]

I suppose you could call this Indie Music Geekery (but I won’t make a tag specifically for that). I was perusing YouTube clicking on random recommended links from my usual geeky things, and found this gem of a music video.

It’s called That Girl, by David Choi. I don’t know much about him, but I do know he has a website, and he recently released a self-produced album with this song it. If you have some spare cash, like his music, and know how to purchase music through iTunes (I don’t even know if I have an account!), then go and purchase his album.

Here are the lyrics that go along with the song, by the way.

Oh, tonight I’m feeling fine
I’m alone, just wasting time
No Friday movie nights
Or romantic candle lights

I’m just having conversations
With the thoughts in my head
All I hear are angels crying
Oh, won’t they just sing instead
It would be wrong for me to say

I don’t need that girl by my side
I don’t need that girl in my life
I don’t want to talk it out
Or hold her when she cries

I don’t want to say she’s my kind
I don’t want to say that she’s mine
I don’t want to tell her that
I love her more than life
More than life, Yeah
Love her more than life
Yeah, yeah, yeah

Honestly, this won’t do
How is she doing?
I tell myself I’m feeling swell
But I know I’m such a fool

I could take it as a new beginning
But you know I don’t feel that way
Who will take all this pain away?
I know it’s wrong for me to say

I don’t need that girl by my side
I don’t need that girl in my life
I don’t want to talk it out
Or hold her when she cries

I don’t want to say she’s my kind
I don’t want to say that she’s mine
I don’t want to tell her that
I love her more than life
More than life, Yeah
Love her more than life
Yeah, yeah, yeah

Talk about a sin
Was the day I walked into the other side
I would run back in
I wouldn’t waste no time
I know it’s wrong for me to say

I don’t need that girl by my side
I don’t need that girl in my life
I don’t want to talk it out
Or hold her when she cries

I don’t want to say she’s my kind
I don’t want to say that she’s mine
I don’t want to tell her that
I love her more than life
More than life, Yeah
Love her more than life
Yeah, yeah, yeah

So I Heard There Were Paid Mounts…

… in Everquest 2.

I won’t talk about it much, as I believe the good Arkenor has already made all the information related to this very transparent.

The only thing I can say is that while I do believe that options should be made available for people to enjoy a game as they see fit, there are probably better ways for me to spend the small amount of money I spend for games than to buy a mount with Station Cash. As it stands, I have 1000 Station Cash just by being in the right place at the right time, so I figure that if they come out with more promos over the course of my play of EQ2, I can probably purchase something of that sort with the same free stuff they give me.

Anyway, that’s all I will say about that. Visit Ark’s Ark for a far better write-up, and make sure you give him a comment.

Get Cory Doctorow’s “For the Win” for Free

Here’s another nice freebie for the folks here who love getting free stuff, myself included. Cory Doctorow’s book, For the Win, is available online in various formats through this site.

For those who haven’t heard of it, I would recommend you take a look at Kotaku’s review of the book, as the book is set against the backdrop of MMOs and gold farming. I’ve yet to read it myself, but at least I have my own copy now for reading purposes. 🙂

Anyway, let’s all take the time to download this, and if we like the book, let’s support it by picking up a copy in store shelves (which may take a year for me to get a physical copy, but whatever…).  Cheers.

Star Wars: The Old Republic gets Advanced Classes!

So I was checking Eurogamer to see if they had a new review up for ROTGS and I was surprised at my recent finding.

Eurogamer revealed some new information regarding Star Wars: The Old Republic. Apparently, those eight classes in the game that we know about? They get advanced classes as a form of progression later on.

It reminds me of Ragnarok Online minus the novice point, wherein choosing a class gave you specific options to unlock a specialized version of the class later on. According to the article, your story will progress in the same way regardless of your advanced class choice, but you will have different ways to play to get through that point with two advanced classes per main class.

The example given in the article lists that of the Sith Warrior, which can turn into a Juggernaut (Darth Vader-style) or a Marauder (Darth Maul Style).

Feel free to also check out Eurogamer’s pre-E3 coverage. It’s quite nice.  At least they didn’t botch it like they did their review of Age of Conan: Rise of the Godslayer.

Open a Portal for Nothing

I would be remiss in my duties as a chronicler of gaming news if I didn’t mention this little bit of info that’s on major news sites and well-known blogs like Kill Ten Rats.

PORTAL IS FREE ON STEAM TILL MAY 24.

Best of all, it doesn’t matter if you own a PC or Mac, as it’ll be playable on either so long as you have Steam.

Since May 23 is my birthday, I find the timing most fortuitous, as I can get myself two gifts instead of one.

Yes, I’ve never played Portal. Shut up. 😛

Pokemon Black and White Starters Revealed

Scans of CoroCoro magazine were recently leaked onto the internet, giving internet denizens with a love for pokemon their first look at the new generation’s set of starter Pokemon.

According to the information gleaned from the article in CoroCoro, the new starters appear to be a Fire Pig named Pokabu, a Grass Lizard named Tsutaja, and a Water Otter named Mijimaru.

Given the looks of these new Pokemon, I’m inclined to pick Pokabu, the Fire Pig, just so I can call him Bacon. Cheers!
